I found a recipe similar to this on pinterest, tried that recipe and decided that it was to much like candy. I was looking for a healthy snack recipe so I tweaked it and came up with this.
Ingredients:
3 granny smith apples (or any type of apple that isn't to juicy)
cinnamon shaker
sugar (optional)
Tools:
mandolin (slicer)
aluminum foil
baking rack
Pre-heat the over to 225-250 degrees Fahrenheit.
Slice the apples on the mandolin. I use the 3rd settings on my mandolin, and the slices are about 1/6 of an inch thick. You don't want then to be so thin that you can see through them, and you don't want them to be to thick that it will take forever for them to be done!
Cover the baking rack in aluminum foil. Place the apple slices on the foil, close but not touching, then sprinkle with the desired amount of cinnamon (and sugar if you choose).
Place the apples in the oven and set for one hour. At the one hour mark, turn the apples over. Sprinkle again if desired. Bake for one more hour.
After the second hour, the racks from the over and place the apple chips in whatever receptacle you desire.
These are awesome snacks that I like to make for myself, but if I'm going to visit a friend I'll usually bring a bag of these as a gift. In addition, they make the house smell AH-mazing! Better than any $20 candle!
I hope you enjoy the recipe, and if you tweak it and love it let me know so I can try!
